You Are A Machine!

We are sorry to say, but you are. We all are! For most of your waking moments, you walk, talk, interact and ‘do’ your life on autopilot. We all do this!

Here’s how it works. You are mostly habitual reactions, patterns158 and behaviors. These happen involuntarily because this is how we’re designed as human beings.

Your brain is wired to respond based on past experiences, perceptions and beliefs. Your brain has ‘grooves’ and patterns of neurons that fire off whenever something happens, someone says something or you have to do something. This is all automatic and though you might think you are in control of yourself, you’re mostly not.

Perhaps this isn’t new information to you, but isn’t it amazing?!

FREEDOM, FINALLY!

Let’s cut to the chase and give you the good news right away.

Knowing this is the secret to true freedom!

The more you know that you are a machine, recognize what sets you off, become aware of yourself and then make new choices, you are truly free.

Just knowing this can be a huge step to freeing yourself to become the leader and woman you truly want to be instead of being stuck in old patterns and ruts.

LEADERSHIP = KNOW THYSELF…AND OTHERS.

As a leader, you need to recognize this automaticity within yourself and learn to identify what you do, when you do it and how ‘the machinery’ takes over. Then you must have enough self-awareness to stop the autopilot and instead find a new way to handle yourself or the situation.

Here’s the kicker.

As a leader, you must also recognize that this is what everyone else does too. When you work with your staff, speak to a prospect or deal with a client, you are most likely interacting with all of their habitual responses and patterns too. Chances are they are in automatic responses to whatever is being triggered inside them. So it’s like two machines interacting with each other yet they think they’re really there, but they aren’t!

HAVE A GOOD LAUGH ABOUT IT!

The fastest way to get out of autopilot is to see it and call it out. Notice it159 and then have a good laugh about it. After all, it’s only human! It’s always easier to see it in others, and as a leader, it takes skill to know how to navigate and communicate beyond the ’stuff’. Start with calling one on yourself and watch how others will start to do the same. Just by watching your example and leadership, they will start to notice their own machinery and start making changes too.

Don’t let another day go by without learning about your own automaticity and where you go into autopilot. This is a powerful leadership skill and key to unlocking your true success and real freedom!

IMMEDIATE ACTION STEPS:

1-  Get your journal and write the question “where am I on autopilot in my business and my life?” Take time to reflect and write what you discover. Dive deep and ask yourself what are the patterns, beliefs, actions and habits you do that are automatic. Maybe it’s the way you start your day without setting an intention or creating a plan. Or how you speak with your VA or assistant. Perhaps you get short with people when things don’t go the way you expect. Or it could be a smile and saying ‘that’s ok’ when really inside you’re upset and not saying it. Get crystal clear about what you do that is mechanical and learn all the ways it manifests itself in your actions, speaking and habits.

2- Now look at the results you are getting and tie it back to what you discovered about where you are in autopilot. See what results show up in conversations, sales and prospecting, when you are operating from habit versus being present and creating your best self.

3- Congratulate yourself! Doing #1 and #2 are incredible exercises and powerful tools to propel you and your leadership forward. As you start to notice your own automatic machinery, you’ll see it in others. You’ll also learn to create real moments and make choices that are more empowering for you and others. Those are the moments you will say ‘yes, that is real and I am spectacular’!
